The name Side means ‘granite’ and is a symbol of fertility. The history of the town begins in the 7th century when first settlings were founded by Greek colonists. When it was taken by pirates it became the center of slave-trade of southern Mediterranean. During the Roman rule it became the center of art and culture. It was then when famous monuments of architecture and unique works of sculpture were created.

Many of them still exist. They are the ancient theater that can seat 20 thousand people, Athens and Apollo temples, Necropolis, Roman terms where the archeological museum is situated. The plenty of historical sights with the beauty of virgin nature give a chance to enjoy wonderful rest and to see unique historical monuments.
